What distinguishes a Messianic Jew (who believes Jesus is Lord) and a Christian?

Last time I saw a "Messianic Jew", he was babbling about Jews for Jesus next to the Hare Krishnas at the airport. You can find fringe nuts within any group. I've never met a rational person that called himself a Messianic Jew. That would be a Christian.
